ResqRanch – a 501c3 Nonprofit Animal Sanctuary

The ResqRanch is the nation’s premiere positive reinforcement animal sanctuary.  That means, we not only provide a compassionate forever sanctuary and a path towards holistic healing for horses rescued from challenging pasts, including neglect, abuse, and high-risk environments, but, we do it all, while teaching the principles of Positive Reinforcement animal training, to our volunteers, our students, on our YouTube channel, the @The1DrQ (you don’t want to miss all this FREE education), and all who visit our beautiful rescued animals.  From discarded race horses to violently captured wild mustangs, we believe every horse deserves understanding, safety, and the chance to thrive for the rest of their lives. And so do the people who love, and appreciate them.

Our programs are led by a licensed holistic veterinarian, professional animal trainer, and international speaker, Dr. Jena Questen, or DrQ as she is known, with over 30 years of experience in the horse industry from racing horses in Dubai to every corner of the United States. Combining a lifetime of experience in the horse industry, with a passion for natural remedies and healing, our rescue animals are treated with acupuncture and herbs, whenever possible. Our mission is to empower 100,000,000 people in the power of positive reinforcement, because we know that the more people understand the why’s and how’s of this training method, the less animals will end up in the slaughter pipeline, in the first place. Our philosophy centers on the whole horse and person, and seriously prioritizes human and horse safety, on the inside and the outside.  If you have ever been hurt by a horse before, or, are a little bit nervous about making sure you are interpreting horse behavior, accurately,  our programs are for YOU! We offer a FREE Horse Relationship Building Masterclass, which encompasses over 150 hours of college level animal behavior and training, condensed into a little under 3 hour online course, which can be accessed by anyone in the free community on our website ResqRanch.org. That is our commitment to horse welfare, hard at work, like no other animal rescue in the world.

We provide for the animal’s in our care through comprehensive physical care, attentive veterinary support both traditionally and with herbs when possible, tailored nutrition, expert farrier work, and fully integrated with a deep commitment to their behavioral and emotional well-being throughout their time here. Central to their ongoing care and enrichment, and for teaching purposes,  is the dedicated use of positive reinforcement (+R) methods. This ethical, compassionate approach allows us to build and an army of believers in the power of positive reinforcement, the scientifically proven best way to build trust, gently address fear or trauma-related behaviors, help horses regain confidence, and ensure their daily interactions and management are built on cooperation and respect for their individual needs and choices. In fact, any veterinarian recommending any behavior and training method other than positive reinforcement, is akin to malpractice, when we have over 100 years of documented research in how this is the best, safest, most effective method to train any animal, to do, anything. And is the only method used by the best professional animal trainers one the planet, marine mammal trainers. You can’t round pen a dolphin or tiger into submission.
