Mustang Yearlings Washington Youth

Mustang Yearlings / Washington Youth promotes and coordinates the annual Youth & Yearling Mustang Challenge originally created by the Mustang Heritage Foundation.  Washington State is managed by Mustang Yearlings / Washington Youth.

In 2009, the Mustang Heritage Foundation announced plans for a Mustang project involving yearling Mustangs and all youth trainers. The BLM is often faced with too many young horses that tend to be overlooked and passed over by many potential adopters due to the time involved for them to “grow up” . The year of 2009 proved to be very successful in the kickoff of this new training program in and around different states where these youth trained yearlings were successfully placed into loving permanent homes. This may not have otherwise happened without these younger horses either staying in the holding corrals until the age of three or going into Long Term Holding (LTH) facilities due to the three strikes bill.

An annual event where Washington Youth ages 8-18 years of age have the opportunity to gentle and in-hand train a Mustang Yearling from the Burns corrals in Oregon. The youth have 90 +/- days to gentle and train their yearling for a final showcasing open to the general public. Those yearlings not being adopted by their trainers then go up for a public bidding process.
