This seminar will walk through some of the most frequent postmortem findings in horses—including laminitis, shipping fever, and the major causes of colic—in a clear, accessible way for owners, farmers, and enthusiasts. Join us to gain a better understanding of these conditions and what they can teach us about equine health. Please note that, as this is a pathology lecture, it may include mildly graphic images of blood, organs, or other depictions necessary for the education of the audience. About Dr. Jager: Dr. Mason Jager serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Medicine and Diagnostic Sciences at Cornell University. As faculty in the section of Anatomical Pathology, he performs diagnostic services at the NYS Animal Health Diagnostic Center while mentoring residents and veterinary students. Within the Pathology Discovery Laboratory at the CVM, Dr. Jager leads research exploring host-pathogen interactions with a particular focus on viral pathogenesis. He is currently investigating the replication dynamics of equine parvovirus-hepatitis, a novel virus associated with hepatitis and fatal hepatic necrosis in horses. Dr. Jager is a lifelong horse enthusiast who grew up around horses and was a member of the US Pony Club from age 5 well into his college years. This seminar is part of the Cornell Equine Seminar Series, and will be presented on Tuesday, December 16, 2025 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Eastern Time via Zoom. Please register in advance.
